Camera and screen data

WalkBlur uses your camera to estimate head direction and, if you enable Only me, compare your face with a saved local profile. Camera frames are processed in memory. The app does not save camera recordings or upload frames, landmarks, or face embeddings.

The optional snapshot blur captures screen images in memory using ScreenCaptureKit. These snapshots are discarded when the cover closes. The default solid cover does not capture your screen.

Your saved face profile

Only me stores twelve numerical face embeddings, a model version, and a creation date in the app’s sandboxed Application Support folder, in WalkBlur/face-profile.json. No enrollment photos are saved. The profile file and its directory use owner-only permissions. Use Settings → Delete saved face to remove the profile.

Permissions and controls

Camera access is required for monitoring. Microphone access is not requested. Optional snapshot blur requires Screen Recording access. Closing the settings window leaves active monitoring running. Pause protection removes the cover and stops camera capture; Turn on protection restarts it. Explicit face enrollment uses the camera until it finishes or you cancel. Stop and Quit also release WalkBlur’s camera capture. You can revoke permissions in macOS System Settings. If you are using an older build that keeps the camera active after pausing, choose Stop or quit the app to release it.

Network and purchases

The current app makes no network requests and does not require an app account. Checkout happens separately through Polar in your browser; purchase and payment information are handled there, not by the camera pipeline. Review the privacy information presented by Polar at checkout.

This website

This static website does not request camera or microphone access and includes no analytics scripts or tracking cookies. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, whose infrastructure receives ordinary web request information such as your IP address. Watching the demos downloads video files; it does not activate your camera.

Checking for yourself

Use Activity Monitor’s Network view to inspect WalkBlur’s network traffic. Network counters do not independently prove how memory or local files are used. The stored face profile is separate from the temporary image processing described above.
